2020 December 22, 2020 Professor Domenico Mario Nuti, a member of the Scientific Council of the TIGER Research Center for Transformation, Integration and Globalization from its inception, has passed away. Principal, socially progressive, a man of great heart and forbearance. Outstanding economist, world renowned expert, great friend of Poland. In the years 1994-1997 and 2002-2003 advisor to Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko, the deputy prime minister and minister of finance. He advised the Polish government in the final and most difficult phase of the successful accession negotiations with the European Union. Adviser to the European Commission, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, ILO and UNDP. He is the author of many outstanding scientific works. His departure is an irredeemable loss for us. It is unusual that the same book that has been honored in the West, in the UK & USA, as the "Financial Times" Summer 2020 Book, in the East wins the Special China Book Award for "facilitating the exchange and mutual appreciation of Chinese and foreign civilizations". „China and the Future of Globalization: The Political Economy of China's Rise” 中国 能否 拯救 世界？ („Zhōngguó néng fǒu zhěngjiù shìjiè?”) Polish edition: „Czy Chiny zbawią świat?” („Will China Save the World?”)  Bloomsbury - I.B. Tauris has published a book of Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko entitled "China and the Future of Globalization: The Political Economy of China's Rise". The work has received positive reviews from eminent authorities. „Financial Times” about the book  2020 The Poltext Publishing House has published a new book (in Polish) by Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko entitled "From economic theory to political practice". About the book Table of Contents (in Polish)  December 2020 The General Assembly of the prestigious Warsaw Scientific Society (SOCIETAS SCIENTIARUM VARSAVIENSIS), whose beginnings date back to 1800 and resides in the historic Staszic Palace in Warsaw, elected 35 new members. The scholars recommended by the Society Faculties had to pass an extremely high statutory threshold of 2/3 of valid votes. Among the newly elected members of the Society is Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko.  December 18, 2020 During a special ceremony in Beijing, the highest-ranking Chinese awards for outstanding scientific, literary and publishing achievements were presented. Among the laureates is the Director of TIGER, Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko, who was awarded the Special China Book Award for "facilitating the exchange and mutual appreciation of Chinese and foreign civilizations", in particular for the book entitled "Zhong guo neng fou zheng jiu shi jie?" (Encyclopedia of China Publishing House, Beijing 2020). Due to travel restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the trophy on behalf of Professor Kolodko was received by H.E. Prof. Malgorzata Runiewicz-Wardyn will participate in the III International Triple Helix Summit 2020, organized by Triple Helix Association (THA) and Bologna University. The title of her presentation is: “The Role of Proximity in Technology Dynamics of High-Tech Industries: the Case of Biotechnology and Aviation” (more information here) October 3, 2020, 5:00 p.m. Katowice hosts the 10th Transatlantic Film Festival, organized by Oscar-winner Jan A.P. Kaczmarek. It is accompanied by debates curated by the Rafał Woś. In one of them, on the topic "Economic transformation. Between the basic income and the recession specter” participates Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko. The meeting takes place at Rondo Sztuki. Kolodko delivers the Guest of Honour Address at IIF International Research Conference & Award Summit (IIF-IRCAS 2020). The title of Director of TIGER speech is „Economics and Politics in the Post-Pandemic World”. The event is hosted by the at Indian Institute of Finance in New Delhi. September 16, 2020 President Andrzej Duda awarded the title of professor of social sciences to Marta Postuła. The professor is a doctoral student and a long-time collaborator of prof. G.W. Kolodko.  June 15, 2020 Prof. Malgorzata Runiewicz-Wardyn participated in the international Triple Helix Conference 2020, organized by University of Tempere in Finland. The title of her presentation was: “The Role of Intermediaries in the Evolution of Triple Helix Knowledge Networks. The Case of Life Sciences Industry”. TWP No. 140 presents Prof. Vladimir Popov`s paper on “A Myth of Soft Budget Constraints in Socialist Economies".  April 2020 The new book edited by Professor Małgorzata Runiewicz-Wardyn entitled “Social Capital in the University-Based Innovation Ecosystems in the Leading Life Sciences Clusters. Implications for Poland” was published by Poltext. The study was funded by the OPUS grant (UMO-2016/21/BHS4/02008) by the Polish National Science Centre: Social capital, innovativeness and growth of regions. As part of the series "Meet in Mitte" Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko gives a special lecture at the Research Institute for Dialogue of Civilizations, DOC-RI in Berlin. The title of the TIGER Director's speech is „Chinism and the Future of Globalization“. The meeting takes place in the DOC-RI conference room at Französische Strasse 23 in Berlin. The 13th Europe – Ukraine Forum takes place in Rzeszow - Jesionka, this time under the slogan „New Possibilities. Old Threats”. Professor Kolodko was also invited to attend the event and on the first day of the Forum participates in the panel debate on the topic „Impact of Foreign Investment on the Economy and Society. Benefits and Risks”, and later, in an individual conversation, answers the question „How to avoid peripheral development? Economic policy dilemmas”. Director of TIGER again at the Economic Forum in Davos. This time Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko participates in the 4th Belt and Road Forum on “High Quality Development and Poverty Reduction”.  Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko participates in the Gaidar Forum in Moscow. This time the topic of the gathering is “Russia and the World. Challenges of the New Decade”. The event is hosted by The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.  January - June 2020 Periodical “Zdanie” in the issue 1-2/2020 (184-185) publishes an article by Professor Bronisław Łagowski, an outstanding philosopher and historian of ideas, entitled “Praise for Grzegorz Kołodko” (in Polish) (pp. 56-58). The author, states, i.a.: “When I was studying at the University of Warsaw, the leading authorities of our university – as it happened – were the economists like Oskar Lange, Michał Kalecki, Czesław Bobrowski, Edward Lipiński, and in some respect Włodzimierz Brus. Their influence reached beyond the faculty of economics, and their statements were listened attentively, because economics touched upon fundamental political issues and there was such a belief that if the authorities listened to them, it would be better in Poland. And this belief was right, as it is right now that if the authorities listened to Grzegorz Kołodko, it would be better in Poland.”  January 2020
The Encyclopedia of China Publishing House has published a work by Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko entitled „Zhong guo neng fou zheng jiu shi jie?” („Will China Save the World?”). It is already the fifth book published by the TIGER’s Director in the Chinese language. .  |
