Abstract
Dr Katarzyna Pisarska
December 15, 2009,
6:00 p.m.
Professor
Grzegorz W. Kolodko at the Constitutional
Tribunal. At the invitation of Mr.
Bohdan Zdziennicki, the President of the Constitutional Tribunal,
the TIGER Director presents his remarks on the matter of social market
economy to which refers the Constitution of Poland. Article 20 of the
Constitution claims: "Social market economy, based on free economic
activity, private property and solidarity, dialog and cooperation of
social partners is the foundation of the economic system of the
Republic of Poland." On the occasion of his comments during one of the
Thursdays at the Economists, the gatherings organized by the Polish Economic Association
(on June 4th, 2009), Professor Kolodko
has said: "...very fast after "Solidarity" had taken over the authority
the ideas and practice of building the social market economy have been
quit. And it's happened so despite all the rhetoric and despite later
article in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. This is a dead
declaration. In practice over last dozen years there hasn't been a
single case of the Constitutional Court verdict about breaking the
principal law as a result of not following the imperative of social
market economy, yet it's quite easy to point to both, the symptoms and
the proofs of a such."
