„Global Consequences of Russia's Invasion of Ukraine: The Economics and Politics of the Second Cold War” – such is the title of the book by Professor Kolodko published by SPRINGER: “This book highlights the geopolitical and economic consequences of the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The author, a key architect of Polish economic reforms and the most frequently cited economist from post-Communist countries, shares new insights into the causes and mechanisms of the Second Cold War. Written in an unorthodox, bold and lucid style, the book raises provocative issues and provides convincing answers to some of the most difficult questions, such as who the true beneficiaries and interest groups behind the war are, and what their motives and conflicting goals are. The book also introduces readers to the greatest challenge of our time, climate change, and explores the long-term effects of the current arms race and rearmament spiral on global warming. This interdisciplinary book, which also addresses the challenges of inflation, mass migrations and clashes between democracy and authoritarianism, will appeal to anyone interested in the contemporary geopolitical shifts triggered by the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but also in the dynamics and directions of the evolution of the new cold war.”

„Rzeczpospolita” daily publishes (in Polish) an article by Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko entitled “The war is ongoing and will continue.” The director of TIGER writes: “The fate of this absurd war will not be decided either on the frozen front of Bakhmut, or on other front lines drawn by strategists and politicians in Kyiv, Moscow, or some other capitals (...). Nor will the fate of this war be decided in the armchairs in the conference room of the NATO air base in Ramstein, Germany.” And he concludes: “The sooner there is a ceasefire in Ukraine and peace negotiations begin, the better. Massive international efforts should follow this path. It is a time of diplomacy and statesmen, not an arms race and politicians who believe in the illusory possibility of defeating the enemy by force. It is also the time of intellectuals and scientists who should talk together as much as possible, above front and political divisions, so that they can influence the views and actions of political decision-makers in their countries, also, or rather primarily, in Russia. Unfortunately, sometimes the generals and politicians influence the views prevailing in academies and on campuses. Isn’t it high time for the ferment and dialogue in the university circles to have a significant impact on the course of political affairs?”
