A new Scientific Advisory Board of the Transformation, Integration and Globalization Economic Research, TIGER, for the decade 2021-2030 was established. The Chairman of the Board, which includes a dozen eminent scientists from around the world, became the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Jose Ramos-Horta.

February 2021
At the end of November a biofireplace exploded in the apartment of Kasia and Igor (President of the Little Tigers Science Club in years 2007/2008). The apartment was completely burnt down and Igor fought for his life for many weeks in the hospital. He is now in need of funds for expensive treatment and rehabilitation. The Kozminski Foundation operating at the Kozminski University is organizing a fundraising for this purpose. We are very grateful for every donation, even the smallest one.

This is the third decade of activity of the Transformation, Integration and Globalization Economic Research, TIGER which was established on the initiative of Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko in August 2000. During that time, we published over 20 books and 143 TIGER Working Papers were issued, we co-organized 26 Distinguished Lectures, hosting, among others, six Nobel Laureates in the field of economics, and we organized 29 scientific conferences and 121 seminars. We keep working!

Professor Domenico Mario Nuti, a member of the Scientific Council of the TIGER Research Center for Transformation, Integration and Globalization from its inception, has passed away. Principal, socially progressive, a man of great heart and forbearance. Outstanding economist, world renowned expert, great friend of Poland. In the years 1994-1997 and 2002-2003 advisor to Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko, the deputy prime minister and minister of finance. He advised the Polish government in the final and most difficult phase of the successful accession negotiations with the European Union. Adviser to the European Commission, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, ILO and UNDP. He is the author of many outstanding scientific works. His departure is an irredeemable loss for us.

The Encyclopedia of China Publishing House has published a work by Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko entitled „Zhong guo neng fou zheng jiu shi jie?” („Will China Save the World?”). It is already the fifth book published by the TIGER’s Director in the Chinese language. .

January - June 2020
Periodical “Zdanie” in the issue 1-2/2020 (184-185) publishes an article by Professor Bronisław Łagowski, an outstanding philosopher and historian of ideas, entitled “Praise for Grzegorz Kołodko” (in Polish) (pp. 56-58). The author, states, i.a.:  “When I was studying at the University of Warsaw, the leading authorities of our university – as it happened – were the economists like Oskar Lange, Michał Kalecki, Czesław Bobrowski, Edward Lipiński, and in some respect Włodzimierz Brus. Their influence reached beyond the faculty of economics, and their statements were listened attentively, because economics touched upon fundamental political issues and there was such a belief that if the authorities listened to them, it would be better in Poland. And this belief was right, as it is right now that if the authorities listened to Grzegorz Kołodko, it would be better in Poland.”

The 13th Europe – Ukraine Forum takes place in Rzeszow - Jesionka, this time under the slogan „New Possibilities. Old Threats”. Professor Kolodko was also invited to attend the event and on the first day of the Forum participates in the panel debate on the topic „Impact of Foreign Investment on the Economy and Society. Benefits and Risks”, and later, in an individual conversation, answers the question „How to avoid peripheral development? Economic policy dilemmas”. In one of them, on the topic "Economic transformation. Between the basic income and the recession specter” participates Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko. The meeting takes place at Rondo Sztuki.

The General Assembly of the prestigious Warsaw Scientific Society (SOCIETAS SCIENTIARUM VARSAVIENSIS), whose beginnings date back to 1800 and resides in the historic Staszic Palace in Warsaw, elected 35 new members. The scholars recommended by the Society Faculties had to pass an extremely high statutory threshold of 2/3 of valid votes. Among the newly elected members of the Society is Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko.

During a special ceremony in Beijing, the highest-ranking Chinese awards for outstanding scientific, literary and publishing achievements were presented. Among the laureates is the Director of TIGER, Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko, who was awarded the Special China Book Award for "facilitating the exchange and mutual appreciation of Chinese and foreign civilizations", in particular for the book entitled "Zhong guo neng fou zheng jiu shi jie?" (Encyclopedia of China Publishing House, Beijing 2020). Due to travel restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the trophy on behalf of Professor Kolodko was received by H.E. Wojciech Zajączkowski, the Polish ambassador to China. A list of the laureate's numerous publications in Chinese is available here.


On the occasion of the jubilee of Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko, the quarterly "Acta Oeconomica", a prestigious scientific journal with impact factor, has published a special edition (Vol. 69, Special Issue 1). In previous years, only three special editions were published devoted to the scientific achievements of such eminent economists as John von Neumann, Nicholas Kaldor and Janos Kornai. In the group of 18 distinguished authors of published articles is the Nobel Prize laureate in economic sciences, Edmund S. Phelps.

This time with a series of lectures entitled "The Leadership at the Era of Rebalancing Globalization" presented at the Normal University in Beijing (12-15.XII) and on its new campus in Zhuhai (16-20.XII). In the final phase of the stay Professor Kolodko, who is the Distinguished Professor of Emerging Markets Institute of the host university, presents a new book, this time about China, in Chinese.

Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) awarded its prestigious annual award for the “Best Book in Economics” to Prof. Marcin Piatkowski’s book on „Europe’s Growth Champion. Insights from the Economic Rise of Poland”, Oxford University Press. This is the first time that two economists from Kozminski University received the same award: in 2013, Prof. Grzegorz W. Kolodko received PAS’s award for his book on  "Dokąd zmierza świat. Ekonomia polityczna przyszłości".

Kolodko the honorary award Kowadlo Kuznicy in recognition of scientific achievements in the field of economics, role in reforming the Polish economy and world authority in the field of development economics and economic policy. Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko meets in Jerusalem the Nobel Laureate in economic sciences, Professor Robert Aumann, the Director of Center for the Study of Rationality in the Hebrew University. Professor Aumann, at the invitation of TIGER's Director, visited Poland in 2009 and presented at Kozminski University the Distinguished Lecture on "Game Engineering".

Nakładem Wydawnictwa Naukowego PWN ukazała się książka pt. „Polityka społeczno-gospodarcza w UE. Finanse na poziomie krajowym, europejskim i globalnym.” Publikacja wpisuje się w toczącą się w środowisku praktyków i teoretyków dyskusję na temat słabości działania instytucji ponadnarodowych, jak i krajowych, które uwidocznił kryzys finansowy. Czy wyciągnęliśmy właściwe wnioski i jesteśmy lepiej przygotowani na nadejście ewentualnych kolejnych kryzysów? Czy warto realizować inicjatywy o horyzoncie ponadnarodowym czy też lepiej skupić się na działaniach podejmowanych w ramach nurtu nowego nacjonalizmu? Over 800 participants from Poland, Ukraine, EU countries and the USA – representatives of governments, political life, diplomacy, business, local governments, EU institutions, international organizations, analytical centers and expert circles – take part in the 12th Europe-Ukraine Forum held in Rzeszow. Among the participants is also Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko, who speaks at the plenary session called “Can we save the economy from populism? Challenges for the region and entire continent”.

Under the auspices of Kozminski University, Comitee of Economics, Polish Academy of Sciences and Polish Economic Society, we invite you to a special, jubilee, international conference "In Quest of a Better World: Economics and Politics"
First Day (28th January - World Day) - a series of debates with the participation of eminent economists from a dozen countries, co-authors of a special edition of the ACTA OECONOMICA (Vol. 69, Special Issue 1) "Grzegorz W. Kolodko turns 70"). Discussion will focus on the conditions and strategies for economic development, the future fate of globalization, fiscal and monetary policy and methodology of modern economics. Special attention will be paid to the Chinese development model. Keynote speech will be delivered by prof. Justin Yifu Lin, former Vice President for Development and Chief Economist of the World Bank.

Second Day (29th January - Polish Day) - leading Polish economists, co-authors of the book published by PWN Publishing House "Economics and politics. Around the economic theory of Grzegorz W. Kolodko" (edited by prof. Elżbieta Mączyńska) will discuss the most important challenges of modern economics and politics, especially from the point of view of opportunities and threats faced by European and Polish economy.

January 2019
The book "Economics and Politics. On the Theory of Grzegorz W. Kolodko" (in Polish) has been published by Wydawnictwo Naukowe PWN". This is a unique collective work, prepared under the direction of Professor Elzbieta Maczynska, President of the Polish Economic Society, by  a group of 28 outstanding Polish economists. The book appears in connection with the jubilee of Professor Kolodko.

The New Pragmatism is spreading ever wider. Yet one more monograph devoted to the economic theory of professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko has appeared. This time, the Scientific Publisher PWN has published a collective work entitled "The Economics of the Future. On the New Pragmatism of Grzegorz W. Kolodko" (in Polish). The scientific editor of the work – in which next to the leading Polish economists write such distinguished authors as James K. Galbraith, Alexander Nekipelov and Satoshi Mizobata – is Professor Maciej Baltowski.

July - December 2018
Oxford University Press publishes a book written by Dr. Marcin Piatkowski, assistant professor at TIGER, currently Senior Economist at the Beijing office of the World Bank. The book is entitled „Europe’s Growth Champion: Insights from the Economic Rise of Poland”.    

December 5, 2018, 3:00 p.m.
At the invitation of the Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IDRI, Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko presents lecture on “Globalization, Crisis and What Next: Neoliberalizm, New Nationalism or New Pragmatism?“. The event occurs in the Auditorium of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Algier.

November 26, 2018, 7:00 p.m.
At HUST, the Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko delivered a lecture called "Will China Save the World?" The event was attended by 350 students and faculty members. The Director of TIGER is a Visiting Professor of HUST since 2016.

November 24-25, 2018
“Chinese Economy at the Era of Globalization”, such is the title of paper which Professor Grzegorz W. Kolodko presents to the East Lake Forum on “Human Destiny Community and Global Governance”. The Forum, which takes place in Wuhan in Hubei Province, is co-hosted by the Institute of State Governance of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). Director of TIGER is a Visiting Professor at HUST.

November 15-16, 2018
Prof. Małgorzata Runiewicz-Wardyn is participating in The 2018 Regional Studies Association (RSA) Winter Conference on “New Horizons for Cities and Regions in a Changing World”, to be held on 15th-16th November 2018 in London. Prof. Runiewicz-Wardyn presents paper on “The role of proximity in the university driven social networks. The case of the US and EU biotechnology clusters”.
